Borders: Opening soon in Dubai

In Mall of The Emirates, conveniently located above Virgin Megastores.

Though I really doubt the highly anticipated Dubai branch of Borders will have a collection that's remotely close to the one in the US, but its nice to see it here anyways.

  • I've spent many happy hours in Borders bookshops around the world - good to see it coming here.

I wonder if they'll have the same formula where they provide comfy reading chairs and encourage people to browse?

  • I was thinking the same thing as Nzm re: nice sofas. Unfortunately it will probably be like starbucks where squatters grab all the good chairs for hours while nursing the smallest coffee ever made and longing for shisha.

  • I question the wisdom of opening a Borders in a country where most books worth reading are censored. What are you going to buy there besides cook books and astrology?

Will it be a source of the latest in great literature? Doubt it!

  • I know what you mean Zaydoun.. never the less, I like Borders' collection of Audio books .. lets hope they have that at least

  • I was excited about Borders too, but like others have already pointed out, they probably won't have the great selection we are used to...I do hope that they keep the comfy welcoming atmosphere though, Dubai needs a good place to read yet (I wonder just how many people actually read here anyway?)
