Dealing With Stupid People Online
Just read an interesting post by blogger Ryan Caldwell on dealing with online morons.
I have to say I've been running into more stupid people online than before these past few week. Thats one of the reasons why I am barely active on the UAE blogger scene. I, and many people i know agree, that the blogosphere is losing its charm..
You can read the whole thing here, below is a snapshot:
Sounds familiar .. don't you think?

So what makes a stupid person?
As I use the term, a stupid person is a person who meets one or more of these characteristics:
- Rather than positively contribute to a community, they prefer to attack people who are smart and successful
- They have a hard time thinking outside of a binary mode (either you are for us or you're against us)
- They are closed to complexities and possibilities that take a little brain work (i.e. stick to simple and obvious)
- They spend their lives wishing they were someone else (often letting jealousy take root)
- Instead of acting, they wish
Sounds familiar .. don't you think?

I often delete comments based on these grounds. It's not about "censoring" people, it's about allowing non-stupid people more space to discuss things intelligently.

Well mory, I just hope I am not one of those :)
But seriously, the blogsphere is indeed losing its charm, which explains my own lack of interest in blogging recently...
Or is it that blogspot is losing grounds to facebook?
Probably... ;)

he2 he2 he2.. oh man...
I will quote my cousin: "I HATE stupid people!"
The worst part about Facebook is you actually get to put faces to the names

DJ: Lol.. I am kindda more attracted to FB than blogger .. :)
KJ: believe me, I would not have stupid people in my facebook's friend's list :)

It's not just online mory, the real problem is that the world is full of stupid people, online or off.
By Seabee, at October 6, 2007 at 3:57 PM
hey, that is kinda similar to generalising :) I think i fit the bill in at least two characteristics!
I agree with you however that blogging is losing its charm.
el 3ajeeb inno awwal wa7de tsharek til3at el 7ishariya al-7ashara :)
I think facebook is also to blame, although I'm still firmly a non-facebooker (so far!)

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments, but I suppose I am not running into as many "morons" as you say, as I am pathetic blogs or increasingly boring blogs! I was about to post something similar and went ahead on the Desp Princess blog with a link to this post :)
As for "morons" my equivalent would be a few stalkers, which is why I have very unfortunately had to enable commment modification, something I had never wished to do but alas..as seabee says, "the real problem is that the world is full of stupid people, online or off"

PS: I noticed you have moderation on. I guess this has nothing to do with this post, eh? :P
By BuJ, at October 9, 2007 at 1:57 AM
Buj; as a matter of fact, i've been wanting to enable comment moderation for sometime. Seeing UAE Community and some of the comments that are exchanged made it more convincing to turn that moderation switch ON..
By moryarti, at October 9, 2007 at 8:13 AM
i*maginate: online stalkers .. lol! Then you better avoid facebook in this case.. it is loaded with crackpods who are out there thinking they can actually...umm.. score! :)
And what Seabee is saying it so true. I have always found interesting bloggers as equally interesting in real life.
No matter what kind of character one tries to portray one, his/her true colors have to show; in one way or another.

LOL re: facebook, funny you should mention that. In my personal (rather new!) facebook experience I would say a lot of "unsoliticed" msgs come my way, the most recent being too hilarious not to share:
"hii , iam new on face book , anyways just a quick question , can you spit on a handsome rich guy if he challenged you to do so ?
I hope this guy doesn't actually exist!
