More Dubai Construction Nonsense

There is a construction site that lies between UP Tower (Cosmo cafe) and Capricorn Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. Rumor has it is that the owner of that construction site has plans to make his new high-rise residential building-to-be a full replica of London's Big Ben; with the 4-way clock and everything.

Word on the street is that Dubai municipality is doing anything to stop this tacky plan from taking place. But the building owner is insisting on going ahead with his plans. He even got a paper from West Minister (some London official bureau) saying that they don't mind him making a replica of Big Ben in Dubai.

Good God what's next?

    Isnt there a plan to make a full size replica of Iefal (or however its spelt) Tower and most of the other 14 wonders of the world?

  • I'm surprised the Municipality has any control over tackiness levels. But the Big Ben idea shows a staggering lack of creativity on the part of the owner and his architect.

  • cI don't know about Big Ben in Dubai but obviously someone thinks they're going to be making big bucks out of this or they are just fulfilling some odd ball childhood fantasy that was buried deep down in his psyche and recently brought back up the surface because of some lame incident with a british woman that broke his heart.

    Who knows but really people .. weirder things have happened!
