Parking Charges in Dubai Malls..
There are a few reasons why I believe we will see more malls start charging a fee for parking in 2009.
Posted on January 1st, 2009 posted here on Dubai Consumer Mirror.
Dubai malls may soon introduce parking fees to limit the number of Dubai Metro users leaving their cars in their car parks.

Metro or not, I think it will only be a matter of time until all malls in Dubai to start a charge for parking.

I don't think its a such a bad thing. Sometimes parking at Mall of the emirates can be a horrible experience

Something like 1 dhiram for two hours, then rising sharply so that a days parking is prohibitive, maybe 50 dhirams for 8 hours.

I already saw MoE setting them up, and landlords are thinking of raising rent as well if you're living close to a station

I am not sure if this can be implemented immd. The malls are facing tremendous pressure from the retailers who in turn are feeling the pressure of falling sales/profits. In this market, charging shoppers for parking will be detrimental. Even if the fees are refunded on production of proof of purchase from the mall (like it is in some countries)
Though guess the malls will be preparing for the parking misuse that the metro stations may pose.

I get the idea of wanting evidence that people are actually spending money. Perhaps they'll go to parking validation. This could a) limit the number of families who simply come to wander the malls b)get people who don't normally spend to actually spend a bit more in the retail outlets simply to avoid the parking fee.

Bersonally, (i cannot believe I am saying this) I do not mind to bay for a mall barking.
Ok burjman caught me by surprise.. really pissed me off when they introduced parking charges, but it makes sense.. however i was violently against it coz i used to park there when i worked in the area for free, and i always used to hang out in burjuman with free parking etc.. so it just felt unfair..
i don't mind paying a few dirhams (and it increasing sharply like Bush Mechanic said) to find a slot in MOE..
plus, the advantage of this is that you make sure ppl who are in the malls are those who have something to do, rather than just loiter around.
Make our malls safer!
ban loiterers!

Dubai Marina Mall is all set up to introduce paid parking and I guess it's something they'll all introduce shortly.
The problem is that bad planning resulted in a severe lack of parking spaces all over Dubai. They didn't learn from those mistakes when they planned the Metro so we have no parking at nearly all of the stations.
Or maybe it was all part of the cunning plan to force us out of our cars...

According to Customer Service at Mall of the Emirates:-
* We do not know when paid parking will start;
* We do not know if it'll be Pay On Entry, Pay and Display or Pay on Exit;
* Rumour has it that it'll be Dh30 (for up to 24h) in MoE and Dh60 in Dubai Mall.
I suspect a Pay on Exit system, as per Dubai Airport Terminal 1.
E&OE, YMMV, etc

Mory, I agree with Mr BuJ, precisely my sentiments. Honestly, I don't think people shall mind paying 2 0r 5 bucks for parking, compared to the 15 -20 mins spend circling for a spot at DCC, BJ or MOE.

Rosh, Deira City Centre has sprouted the same payment machines as MoE. It looks like Pay on Exit, a la DXB T1.
And that means you are privileged to pay for the 15 -20 minutes you spend circling for a spot.
